About Annika Lindberg, Counsellor in Selby

My name is Annika and I am a qualified counsellor working in private practice in the Selby area. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling, which I gained from St John’s University in York. I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapists, which means that I work to an ethical framework. I offer a very unique, private and peaceful setting, where you would be able to explore what is happening in your life. I will not offer advice, but rather work together with you to find ways forward or to simply just stay with what is right now.

I have had a lot of experience working with bereavement.  The pain we can experience when losing someone close can be overwhelming. Loss can also be as a result of a breakdown of a relationship, loss of health, a pet, a job, a home or even our selves. Counselling can help you through this painful time in your life.

I am happy to work with a wide range of conditions, although I would like to think of you as an individual rather than a person with a condition. I believe in a holistic approach where the body and mind work together. It would therefore not be unusual for instance, for a person with anxiety to have tension in their body or a grieving person to feel a knot in the stomach. The body and mind are very “good” at reacting to perceived threats in order to protect us. Perhaps you have heard of fight, flight or freeze response? This would most certainly help us in threatening situations. However, long term anxiety and stress can trick your body into believing we are under constant threat, which can have a very negative effect on your health.
